Verdens Bedste Nyheder (in English: The Best News In the World) was founded in 2010 as part of a campaign created by the United Nations, Danida, and the organisation Globalt Fokus. Its mission is to spread information about global progress on the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Since 2016, Verdens Bedste Nyheder has become an independent publication. As a non-profit, its revenue comes from government grants, paid memberships, and other funds. All its content is free.
Editorially, the organisation focuses on constructive journalism about humanitarian development, climate innovation, and technological advances, and disseminates information on progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
In its constructive orientation, the organisation sees itself as a relevant voice of reason and collaboration in a news cycle that focuses on problems instead of solutions. It wants to show a different way for journalism in contributing to the public debate with a more constructive, less cynical voice.
The team arranges a yearly handout of a printed version of Verdens Bedste Nyheder, where over 2,600 volunteers give out free newspapers featuring their articles.
