Zmina – Centre for Human Rights covers the state of human rights in Ukraine through its media portal Zmina, through social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, and other media platforms, including reputable publications in Ukraine and abroad.

In Ukraine, the population's perception is that media is, on the one hand, the most effective way to protect human rights and, on the other hand, the primary source from which people learn about their rights.

The organisation works on improving how journalists report on human rights. It conducts training and seminars for journalists on human rights, non-discrimination, and ethical standards in covering minorities and vulnerable groups, as well as, for example, the specifics of "places of detention". It also organises safety and hostile environment training and human rights threats coverage for journalists and defenders working in conflict zones.

In 2017- 2018, the organisation conducted the first human rights training for 25 journalism professors from 20 Ukrainian higher education institutions, as a result of which the participants were able to deepen their knowledge in the field of human rights, as well as to launch new thematic courses at their universities.

Zmina holds journalism competitions on human rights and non-discrimination and organises thematic festivals for students.

Over the years, the organisation's activities have been financially supported by the European Commission, the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine, the International Renaissance Foundation, the UK government, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the US Department of State, OSCE, the Freedom House, People in Need, the Netherlands Helsinki Committee, the Deutsche Welle, and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, among others.

Following the Russian invasion in February 2022, Zmina included a topic called Russian War Crimes in Ukraine, which systematically uncovers war crimes and human rights abuse in occupied and de-occupied territories.
